shift indicator problem...

hey guys, im new to the forum, and got a problem with my ranger, i just got a 2007 ranger xl this past monday and everything is great..

only thing is the shift indicator, (i believe thats what it's called) Automatic tranny..

i can change gears fine, just on the dash it stays at 1, regardless if im in drive, reverse, or neutral, it stays at 1...

i've been told its an easy fix, but not sure how to go about it....

thanks in advance....

It sounds like the little cable inside the indicator broke or came loose. You'll have to remove your cluster to find out. The indicator is pulled one direction by a spring and it's pulled the other direction by the cable that is attached to the shifter.

Ok, so I hunched over and looked behind the trim under the dash and I can see there is nothing attached to The end of the red cord after the thumb wheel adjusted... is the cable or wire something that I can but at an auto parts store, or is there some way of rigging it?
