Coolant Reservoir - Flushing

I just bought a 2000 Ranger and the coolant reservoir needs a good cleaning/flushing. I drained it, but was wondering if I could bypass taking it completely out of the truck to clean before I replace the coolant. The manual suggests taking it out but I figured I could just flush with a hose the same as I would with the radiator.

Does anyone know why I shouldn't do this? Of course, I would only be using water.

Thanks
Ken

When I cleaned mine I just pulled the hose going to the rad. Either where it comes out of the tank, or at the top of the rad next to the filler. Just pulls off. Kept fillin it up, and letting it drain outtta the hose into a bucket till it was clean.
