Another OHC question-temp sensor

Alright, I got un-lazy and mounted and wired the OHC. 1 problem. I think I have the wrong temp sensor. I did some searching and I might have the EATC sensor.

The wires coming from the sensor are: red/orange and blue/yellow.

Do i have the wrong sensor? When I hooked iy up, it read -40F. I took off the sensor and it now reads 140F.

(I didnt hook up the VSS or the dimmer wire...does this matter?)

BTW: it looks great!

It should read -40F or -40C when the sensor circuit is open (unplugged).

The 95~2001 Explorer console sensor wires are blue/white and blue/yellow. The Explorer EATC sensor wires are red/orange and pink/black. Did your sensor come out of a different vehicle??

You have the wrong sensor. Probably looks kind of like a pencil tip at the end, right?

You need the sensor that has B/Y and B/W wires coming from it (has a flat "snub nose" end).

See what Bob said.

Yeah. I've got the one with the tip on the end...

I got the whole package from a member on G-E a long time ago. So, it's the wrong sensor?

It's easy to grab the wrong sensor off an Explorer, they are both mounted pretty close to each other up front. When I pulled my OHC from a local yard I grabbed both sensors because at the time I didn't know which one was which.

You can pick up the correct sensor cheap at one or your local yards, I'd think.

Actually, Joe, it's not that simple. Both of these are overhead console sensors, just from different model years:

Thanks for the clarification Bob. I didn't realize the OHC temp sensor came in different shapes.

FWIW, the OHC temp sensor I pulled from a '95 Explorer looks like the one at the bottom in your pic.

The sensor may have come out of a different vehicle, not a 95~2001 Explorer.

Most of the wire can be 22 ga with no problem, I used 18 ga. I'd use the heavier gauge for the map/dome lights though for sure.

Yeah, I'm getting a new temp sensor from pastfinder, but it's still reading 140*. Did I wire it wrong?
