Ooooops

I was working on my OHC today and I was messin with the over head dome light. When I was screwing in one of the screws that kept the lighting fixture in place I touched my screw driver to the light fuse in the middle of the two light bulbs. I then saw a spark, thats when I got worried.

I then started my car and proceed to drive. I then noticed that my speedometer was not working and my airbag light was on in the dash. It would occasionally blink.

What did I do? I think I blew a fuse and I want to get it fixed ASAP. Does anyone know which one I f***ed.

Thanks Jake

That 'fuse' is the actual light and those screws that hold it in place are the ground. If that's the case then your dome light shouldn't work. Open your owners manual and see what fuse is linked to the dome light, pull it, and check it. If that's not the case then you can pull the fuse cover and easily look over the fuses in the sunlight to see a burnt one.

edit: nm, I guess it was the light on the ohc and not the actual dome light. I don't have any experience with the whole ohc deal.

My dome light does not work. Its not my OHC that is giving me trouble its my stock dome light. I will check my fuses and see what I am dealing with.

I have another problem with my OHC. When I got it the tabs that are on the front of the console were broke ( the ones that you have to dremel the roof to install). How would i get the front to stay snug to the headliner.

Any suggestions.

Also when I intall the wires to get power can I just run the two wires from the OHC to the fuse panel and use a slot that is not used with say a 30A fuse? ( just stick the two ends into the fuse panel and this install the fuse?)

Hmm, this is going to be a tricky one.. those tabs are pretty important to the whole mounting of the unit. you could try and remove the OHC's light lense and try and drill 2 holes in a place that wouldn't be affected by a hole and screw being there. Drill 2 holes in the bracket that the OHC installs into... Then just get some retardely long screws and line it up!

You can also try this... Near the front of the unit, find a place where you could either drill a hole on each side or something to wrap some saftey/lock wire to/around... wrap the wire around the hole/ mount point and string it along the headliner to the back of the visor screw, pull it tight and wrap it around the screw a few times..

If I were you, I would ask whoever you bought it from to exchange it for another one that's not nuked, as those tabs are pretty cruicial for proper installation/mounting.

IMO, it would be easier to follow the excellent directions on the how-to...

With fit and finish in mind, I had thought of this idea myself... but upon closer inspection, the empty slots are empty and don't have an electrical connection in it. I tried a few terminal ends and other electrical items I had from work with no luck.

Also a 30amp fuse would be over kill... the OHC doesn't consume near that much amperage, you would risk damaging it in the event of a short.

So I hooked up the light section of the OHC and had a question. When the lights turn on ( map lights) they are very dim, almost an orange/red color. What could cause this problem. Could it be a bad connection to the stock dome light or bad bulbs?

I am still contemplating how to hook up the rest of the wires b/c I am not sure if I want to take out the radio.
