ABS problem
Hi I am a new member.
I just purchased a 2000 Ranger XLT 4X4 extened cab with 130,000 miles.
The truck had a few problems all of which I cured except an ABS issue.
The ABS appears to be functioning properly but is false activating at very low speed.
Everytime you come to a complete stop the ABS will activate just before the truck comes to rest. When the system activates the steering wheel pulls hard to the right.
I have pulled all the speed sensors and cleaned them, inspected the front speed rings - all looked OK. Problem still exsists
The only time the ABS light comes on is at startup.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If your truck has 4 wheel ABS start here
-measure all four tire circumferences, they should be within 1/2" of eachother
-remove the rear sensor from the diff and inspect for metal shavings on it or damage
-remove both front wheel speed sensors and look in the hole as the reluctor ring turns, and inspect for any chipped or missing teeth, or cracks....odds are replacing both front wheel bearings will fix this
does it activate more if you are turning one way or another?

I Checked the tires all were within 1/8 inch.
I replaced the drivers side speed sensor as the wheel was pulling to the right upon false activation.
This cured thw problem, no more false actvation.
I am upset with the cost from FORD for the sensor $180.
Can anyone give me a recommendation on where to get the owners manual?

Thanx for the owners manual info.
I checked out an after market speed sensor offered by the local O'Reily's parts store and found it to be a cheap copy made in China with no warranty, the cable length was shorter and the fastner grommets were incorrect. Yes I took it in the shorts from Ford, but,at least my money is staying in the USA.
I will no longer support off shore products that continue to cripple our country. Pass the word
