Finally picked up some cheapo aux lights to help with the tinted window issue at night(those who are tinted know how useless the stock reverse lights are lol )

Ran the power/ground wires through the firewall and all that jazz

So now I'm down to running the wire into the cab from the lights to my switch

Figure I'll drill a small hole back in the jumpseat cavity on the floor and then run the wires under the door-sill trim (yes I'll use a rubber gromet to protect the wire where I drill)

My question is where did you guys route the wires from the lights themselves? I'd go look but we're getting a nice snow/rain mix now. If I can get a good idea of how to run them I'll finish the job on my lunchbreak tomorrow at work.

Pics would be appreciated or a good description of how you ran them! Thanks in advance

 

if you have trailer tow wires back there you can either A). cut the adapter off and directly wire to reverse trailer wire or B). go to autoz and but the adapter fitting with a few inches of wire and rig them that way. this only works however if you have the reverse wires in your trailer package. I did...luckily

 

I tapped mine into my reverse light. I may run it to a switch come this spring but still attached it to the light harness so I can turn them on/off when I want and still work in reverse.

 

i did the same, just tapped into the factory reverse lights too but into a new relay with new power coming from the battery

 

I don't want them tapped into the reverse lights. I want switch only for them pesky tailgaters lol.

 

Like mentioned above, just run them alongside your factory wiring going to the back of the truck.

Before you go drilling into the cab floor though... just make a small hole in one of the grommets in the floor and go through there!

 

Ahhh ok cool cool. I couldn't remember if there was a grommet someplace. Its under the jumpseat still correct?( I'm only 2 door)

 

My wiring is run in 1/4 in conduit along the driver side frame rail. ziptied to what I could find.

If you run a standard 5 pin relay you can run a switch and have the lights come on with the reverse lights. Heres the wiring diagram I came up with when I ran mine.

Cool cool thanks for the tips. Yeah I'll eventually wire them into the reverse lights. I'll probably get made fun of for light choice lol but meh :) they were cheap and its more of a function over form thing.

Since its too wet to be wiring I went to get a different switch. Found one that fits PERFECTLY in the little slot above my deck horizontally. Good and snug so I don't have to break the dremel out! Lol

 

Ha dude my lights were $12 at walmart and I spent close to 30 on wiring lol any light is better then nothing.

 

Haha they just look shall I say "euro" but yeah just tired of rollin windows down to see my mirrors when its 20* out haha

 

I ran mine with two relays so they would only turn on with the lights on and in reverse. I've been thinking about hooking up a switch to it too but I'll be too tempted to lighting up the tailgaters too often.

 

Not sure why you'd run power & ground into the cab...

I ran one wire from the switch through the firewall to activate a relay & keep all the wiring under the hood.
For my reverse lights, I ran my wiring (inside 1/4" wire loom) along the drivers side frame & zip tied it everywhere I could to keep it safe.
All the light wiring ends up under the hood where they connect to the relay.
I'm using OEM fog switches (with my wiring kit) to control my backup lights, driving lights & OEM fog lights (recently modded so they work independent of the headlights/hi beams).

grounds not in the cab lol. its setup just like yours. ground in engine bay, fuse right next to the amp fuse(both 6" from powersource. i'm gonna have to route the wiring on the passenger side for the time being(gotta mod my storage enclose a bit to run wires down the driver side)
