How do I get the brake light to go out?

I recently got news that I needed between $500-1000 worth of brake work. Thankfully my grandfather was able to fix it for under $100 in parts and dinner was the only labor charge! The only problem is he does not know anything about how to reset the computer. all of the brakes have been fixed but the brake light on the dash is still on.

My question is, How do I get the brake light on the dash to go out?

Know anyone with a scan tool? See if there's any codes in there... not sure if you can reset the light that way or not though. I've never had a brake light on yet to try it.

Are you talking about the Red light or the Yellow one?

^this

The red brake light is not computer controlled no scanner will find the answer. It is old tech.

Just guessing here but maybe the proportioning valve is off center, Old School fix is bleed one side to center, not sure how this applies to newer trucks.

luck

yes I have tried unplugging the negative battery for 5 mins.

It is the red light

it is on when I am driving around so the parking brake is off

my fluid levels are perfect

i was driving today and the light went out for about 10 mins then came back on.
any more ideas besides pulling the light all together?

Your parking brake depresses a switch that turns that lamp on, so even though your parking brake is off check to make sure the switch isn't stuck.

As bfd's_ranger stated, check the parking brake switch. If its functioning properly, then I'd look at the master cylinder reservoir fluid level sensor.

Two things…

One did you bleed the brakes starting from the right rear then the left rear moving forward ?

How about a pic of the dash lights ?

Three things !

And did you pull up on the E-Brake, release the lever and pull up to see if the light goes out, sometimes the sw on the lever get pushed just enough to light up the light. It is just wear so pull up and see.
