$420 to machine rotors???
I let my brakes go and never changed out the brake pads and now they are metal on metal. I took it to Ford to see what it would cost and they want $420 to machine the rotors and put new brake pads on. Is this the cheapest way to go about this? I also heard it is better to replace the rotors completely rather than to resurface. Any suggestions I would appreciate.

Resurfacing your rotors is good if they are within specs but don't go to ****in ford! They will bend you over backwards with the prices. Also don't ever neglect your brakes man! That's the worst thing you could do, without your brakes your screwed its definitely one thing you don't want to neglect.

Ya, I'm not seeing any for less than $90 each unless these would work. http://www.racepages.com/products/?N...s&N=4294965128
Would the ones by Centric near the bottom of the page work fine?

Had a pad brake on me and the rivets dug into the rotor. I had to have that rotor replace (junkyard rotor $15), have both of them turned ($10 each at NAPA machine shop), and get a new set of pads ($40 at autozone for their better brand as per reccomendation of the guy working there). I dented one of the dust caps ($2) and got some Ford/Lincoln/mercury bearing grease ($3).
So in total, $80 and an afternoon's work.

Junkyard rotors that havent been turned to minimum spec and a turning is going to cost less than new rotors....cheapies, OEM, or otherwise.

Did my own front brakes two weeks ago. I bought the absolute best you can get and it was a shade under $400 for the rotors and pads.
So far they are awsome. Even having driven in heavy rain for 30 minutes w/o touching the brakes they felt no different than in the dry upon first braking. Only time will tell if they turn out to be a "good value". But.. they are indeed awsome at stopping. Heads and tail better than the stock ones were off the dealerships lot.

Thats alot to turn Rotors. My family company used to charge $10 a rotor to turn and $6 a drum to turn. Now we charge $12 a rotor and $10 a drum we just raised prices for the first time in 3 years last month.
