After winter I was turning on my AC and noticing it doesn't blow cool air. I do know the compressor is kicking in when the AC is turned on, just no cold air. But that's all I've ruled out, I'm not sure what else to look for as far as problems or leaks go.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

might just need the system recharged...do you ever remember having it recharged?

 

I had one of those little charge it yourself systems a while back, but I don't know how good those are.

 

theyre not the greatest out there...pick another one up and see if it gets/stays cold...if not youre gonna have to take it someplace that can leak test ac systems and go from there

ac systems are sealed systems meaning they should not leak so unless its a control problem it should blow cold. therefore u probably have a leak somewhere.

 

Check the pressure before adding refrigerant. Some of the kits have a gauge that will show you were you stand. I need to add some every 4 years or so just to stay in the green.

Also check to make sure you still get heat, as the blend door can become stuck or broken in the middle somewhere not giving you anything but one setting.

Another thing to check is too see if the ac gets colder if your cruising above say 30. If it does than you have a broken/worn out clutch on the fan.

 

I remember the heater working fine during the winter, I'll check it though. And the fan should be fine since it's an e-fan, although it doesn't come on until the engine is nice and warm, but the a/c is still cold at that point.

I got a bottle to refill it, I'll let you know how it works out.

 

I got a refill bottle which didn't work so well and it still wouldn't come on. I had a similar problem last year with the compressor not getting power and got it fixed (apparently a wire got sheared near the firewall). So I took it to the mechanic who found the evaporator core has a big leak. He wanted $550 to fix it all so I'm just going to replace the core myself and then get him to fill it up with freon.

So to replace the evaporator core. It's right next to the firewall in the black box looking thing, correct? Also is there anything I need to be sure to do when replacing it?

 

nope pretty straight forward. i think i removed the windshield wiper fluid resevoir and the cruise control servo for better access to it, theres several bolts to the box on the outside then u can open it i believe and pop the evap core out

It looked pretty easy, just take off the side of the box, unbolt the connections and pull it out. Thanks!

 

That's what's going on with mine. On May 31st during lunch I took a nap in the truck with AC on. When I went home later that day I noticed right away it wasn't blowing as cold as normal. Caused me to turn it to Max and it still seemed not that cold even when going well over 30.I put it back on regular settings and get some what cold but was way colder last weekend and previous. I'm gonna try recharging it and see how that goes.
