Troubleshooting possible fuel pump issue.

My 1999 Ford Ranger XLT started hesitating to start after a month sitting my garage. I drove it about 100 miles and it started fine the next morning. That evening it wouldn't catch, it just turned over and over. Knowing this couldn't be a battery problem I started to believe it was a fuel pump problem. To make sure, I replaced the fuel filter which fixed the problem for a couple of days then to problem appeared again.

Could the root problem be the fuel pump still or something else?
