Software update?

I recently bought a programmer for my 03 Ranger 3.0 RWD. When I go to program it the programmer says "Software needs to be updated. Part number 2L5A-CE. Calibration name PYAF5F8". I contacted the company that makes the programmer and they said it is the software in the truck's computer and not the programmer. Do I just go to any dealership for an update and how much would it cost me? I want to know what it entails because I bought the truck privately and I have never gone to a dealership for anything cuz I could do it myself.

Any Ford or Lincoln dealer can do it. Many independent shops can do it too. We had it done on the wife's Mercury as there were a couple TSB's that were resolved by a software update. We paid around $80 for it at the dealership.
