Can I run two electric fans with my Bronco's stock electric system?

Just like the title says... I've got a Bronco with a stock electric system, and I want to run dual electric cooling fans. I've got a new battery, and a rebuilt alternator from a reputable place, will they be able to handle the load of 2 fans pulling at once?

The reason I am asking about this is because its my understanding that with the bigger radiator on a fullsize truck, you need to have dual electric cooling fans. I don't have AC in the truck, so if that knocks out the reason for the second fan, I'd be glad to hear it.

i would assume your truck has the big block v8 correct

your stock system has enough to run 2 electric fans....most of the 2 fan systems only pull around 30A....

if i were you, i would get a Taurus efan and a Spal controller and wire it up for the high speed to run....i have it hooked up on my truck that way....when the fan kicks on at 210*, i can watch the temp gauge drop down to roughly 160*.....that is sitting at idle.....and the Taurus efan has a shroud on it.....i don't know how big your radiator is, but it completely covers a 4.0 OHV radiator....also, the Spal controller gets its temperature reading from the STOCK water temp gauge, so there is nothing to push into the radiator......the Taurus fan draws 33A continous (not but a few amps more than what dual fans would draw).....the only down side is that it draws up to 85A for a split second at startup.....i am running it on a 40A fuse and haven't blown it yet (been running on it for a week now) from the high amp draw at startup....

the Taurus efan pulls ~4500 CFM in the high speed......you wont find an aftermarket fan that pulls that much unless you are paying above $500.....i got my efan and controller for $120 ($65 shipped for the Taurus efan off eBay, and the controller from Universal Parts for $70 shipped.....

BTW: if you decide to go that route, i have an extra 40A SPDT relay that you would need to wire up the Taurus electric fan with the Spal controller....i will ship it to you along with a wiring diagram on how to wire it up.

Thanks for that info Maurice, as per your question, I am not sure if it is classified as a big block -it's the 5.8L, 351cui motor.

I am planning on running it with no controller for now, just the temp gauge and a simple on/off switch with two relays. If I decide to go with a controller, I will look into the Spal. Being that this truck is mainly a trail rig, I'm not too worried about the temperatures that the fan turns on and off.

Just so you guys know, the reason I'm doing this is because my stock fan is no longer working, and I just happen to have these fans at my disposal.

it will be fine with a switch...just remember to turn it on

depending on the amp draw of the fans, you could use 1 40A SPST(or DT) relay to run the fans. as long as they didnt' draw above 40A combined. or the ones i got from www.mouser.com are 50A/30A relays. i paid $7 a piece for them.....

you will be fine as far as the electrical system goes!

John, the stock electical system is JUNK. do not run any un-need accessories on it. do the 3G upgrade, big 3 and then electric fans. those 2G alts are ****ing garbage, mine literally caught fire and burned a good part of the harness up.

i LOVE the dakota digital e-fan controller. it is superior to anything i have ever looked into.

you got a link to it, because it isn't on Dakota Digital's website.....have you looked at the Spal controller?

The Spal controller is also field programable and can use a stock temp sensor (i know cause i am using it on a stock temp sensor on my Ranger). The only difference is the Spal controller doesn't have a digital readout on it (more than likely the controller will be mounted where you can see the read out anyways).
