Unidentified filtering object

Didn't see a section for a 2.9l so I thought I'd post here.

I have a 2.9l V6 BroncoII 1986. The fuel filter is leaking because the gasket it torn. Problem is, the two filters that Pepboys, Autozone, and NAPA sells, aren't near what I need. The filter that that the stores carry is about 1/2 the size of my current filter. Chiltons manual doesn't have a picture of my setup either... so I'm turning to the experts. Here's a picture of what I've got going on.



It's got two lines going in and out of it. None of the pictures I've seen looks anything like this. Only thing I can image is that someone before us upgraded it from another vehicle. But previous owners didn't do ANYTHING to it maintenance wise (motor oil looked like tar) so I can't ask them.

Any insight?

 

The 86 Bronco 5.0 has the same setup, but the filter that it requires is too short
