i installed mine without drilling any new holes in the roof by using the screws that hold up the visors. It looks really good, especially when the visors are up, you cant see the metal piece running between them. My pics aren't working right now, but you can see them in my cardomain site (see bottom of sig.)

If that doesn't help, you might be able to see what your working with by looking at some of the pics people have taken of installing the explorer overhead consols, they cut out the roof to expose the metal, that could give you an idea of what is behind yours. I'll see if i can't find the link.

EDIT: Here is the link to John Grigg's cardomain site, if you scroll down, you can see what is up there! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/3
hope that helped!

its probably held on with double sided tape but you could take all the panels around it off. IE side panels, a pillar panels and then those clips in the rear roof if you have them and it should come down

I took out my Headliner on my 01 and it is only held on by the plastic moldings, the Visors and there catches and the coat hook on the back. Almost forgot! Also the dome light.

They are all easily removable, just take your time. If you don't have the four door option, you are S.O.L. as far as actually getting the headliner out. The only way to do that is through the windshield or the back window.

It still is a pain to get it out of the four doors but if you are careful and take your time you can do it without any Damage.

If my picture comes up, here what it looks like. I installed a overhead console and drilled two hole for mounting the bracket. there is an inner sheetmetal and outer skin. Drilling into the inner sheetmetal will not go through the outer skin an longer as you don't allow the drill bit to go too deep. On my install I had about two inches of space between the inner sheetmetal and the outer skin. I hope this answers your ?.

Yeah, I pulled mine out to do some tweaking and it is a PITA to do but once you do it the first time it is all downhill after that.

I will take some pics this week probably when I gut the interior out to get it painted and prepped for fiberglass and suede.

I am also wanting to take mine off to put sound deadener under b/c my system is causing it to rattle pretty badly. I have an 02. Someone said (as already mentioned) to just take off the pillar panels, the visors, and dome light and whatever else is attached, and it should just pop off, no glue. I am just scared of breaking some tabs or something lol. Let us know how it goes when you take it off! Take pics if possible!

when i took mine off i just unscrewed both visors and clips. then unscrewed the handle on the apssenger side. then the dome light and the hook in the back. then if you want to drop it completely you have to unhook the side panels on each side in the back above the window. those just pop off i think.

the tabs are pretty strong...you shouldn't break them. I had to do mine this weekend...i'll have pics up when i finish.

my roof didn't rattle at all...that was the one thing...it flexed a tiny bit but it wouldn't even bounce a penny...seriously
