I've looked on the internet and there's plenty of the universal keyless entry systems you can buy but I'm wondering if they actually work and if they are secure. i don't want anyone with the same system to be able to unlock my truck.

 

I installed a kit I got on ebay in my first truck, it held up pretty well except for the remotes. If I had to do it all over again I'd pay more for a better kit, so I suggest getting something nice not a cheapo.

As far as I know each remote needs to be programmed to the module, so someone shouldn't have the ability to unlock yours with theirs.

 

I bought one a few years ago, was not impressed at all. This was a cheap kit, and the remote would not unlock the doors unless you were right up at the car (or in it).

 

Ya, I installed a universal one last year on my truck. It came with the door actuators. I really like mine but if you leave the truck sit more than 3 days with power to the system it will drain the battery dead. I know the wiring is all correct but it is something with the system. Just put a on/off switch so I can turn the power off to the unit.
