Looking for: local fabricator to make this....

Custom stand for my Basslink II. I saw it on another thread and I'd like one. Too bad I don't have the skills or else I'd do it myself. Respond if you're interested in making some side money. Be reasonable about your rates too, please.

I'm digging it. Of course I'd like the carpet to match a little better.

5 percent markup on material and 40 dollars per hour labor rate. Thats what we charge for fab and machine here at my company... I would say if you are decent, that should take you no more than 2.5 hours. Say 10 bucks material and call it good at $110....

I'd say you both were on crack. $100 for a stand!!! I was thinking more along the lines of $30 or less.

Edit - Or even $50 or less.

Sorry bud, no crack here... I quote that kind of stuff for a living. IF my shop were to make it, that would be a fair price. If someone wanted to make it for less, thats fine, but anyone with my experience would tell you 100 bucks is a good price....

go to home depot, buy some MDF, buy a jigsaw and go to town, predrill the holes and screw it together. The only way to learn is to just do it.

build the box first.... lol, you could go to a stereo shop and ask them to carpet it. I think home depot sells carpet, any fabric place should have some

If I was you I give it a try. What's the worse that can happen? You throw it away? Go on line and search on tutorials on building similar things. You will be amazed at what is out there. Also check with your local school and tech school for evening classes. Get your hands dirty. If you find you need a power tool you don't have borrow one. Then return in a timely fashion with a new blade or consumable so the owner will let you borrow it again.
If nothing else think of the learning experience. Measure 2 and 3 times then cut. Use screws so you can take it apart to trim if need be.
Let us know how you make out.

Many times people don't figure in their labor when they think of how much something will cost. In America an average worker gets say $20 an hour and supplies his own tools (company costs with benefits is way above that). In China they make 35 cents an hour or it's free labor from a labor camp and yet an American will think nothing of paying $100 for a pair of sneakers? Where is all that profit going? To the Chinese military cause they are a communist state or to the big company like Adidas? Something to think about...

i swear. is nobody a hobbiest anymore? Jimmy rig **** already! all i hear is take it to a shop half the time. look, after you followed that dudes advice on building it from home depot. should cost no more than 20 bucks for something so small. go to autozone or wal mart or something and buy a can of spray on adhesive. wal mart should also carry fabric or simply go to yellow pages.com and look up a crafts store or someplace that caries carpet. buy something like 2 square feet. measure twice. cut once. spray glue. aply carpet. place in truck. DONE. and you wont have some spaz here trying to charge you 100$ and you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Key word here is "Patience" when you take your time and not rush it it comes out ALOT better. youll be surprised how well it comes out. and
PS: when you spply the carpet after the glue. kinda start with one end. and slide your hand over it kinda like your putting on a sticker to make sure theres no air bubbles.

Believe me tho i know how you feel. someone tells me to pay 100$ for a box made of wood and i wanna punch em in the face. its stupid. your like. k.......the carpet cost 10. the wood total cost 10. the glue cause 5. and the screws cost 2 and the saw cost 10. and your charging me 100 because you think your time and effort is worth 50 bucks? maybe if i was paying someone to build me a hummer out of wood id pay 50 bucks an hour but screw that.

Yes, my time is valuable, and no i didnt tell him to pay me $100. I said if i were to do it, then I would probably charge around that. You get what you pay for, if i did it, it would come out perfect because i am a perfectionist. I paid $30 for a shop to carpet my box and it came out like ****... I went the cheapest route and I got what i paid for.

Glad someone posted it. This thread makes me kind of glad I do all my own work for custom jobs like this. Hell I'm taking welding classes at the local tech school for $500. If custom stuff really costs that much, I'll have saved myself more then enough money on just the cage I want to build to take the classes, buy the welder, buy the materials, and build it, over have a shop do it.

Now granted, to you guys that do it for a living, all the more power to ya. If people pay, of course your going to charge it.

Are you telling me the hour it would take to carpet a 2 square foot box is worth more then 20 bucks? I mean the box is tiny. You could get the carpet and the glue and be done in less then an hour. My buddy and I did his massive sub enclosure in like 2 hours and that includes the 20 minute drive to the store and back. And it looked great.

I'm not saying your time isn't worth that. Maybe you make a lot more money then me. Not trying to pick a fight here, just think if that stand is all the guy wants I think he's best of going the route of finding a friend to help him out and just building it out of some MDF himself if the alternative is a $100.

Paying for simple stuff you can do is lame. Shops charge so much because they are liable for making a great product. No one on this site is going to charge you that much because they aren't professionals and have no right to charge you 50$ an hour.

Anyways dude, I could build one of those drunk, and it'd look perfect. I hope you own some simple tools and could knock out that stand in no time.

Oh, and if you're more into buying makeup and barbie dolls than power tools, go to Menards. Their tools are cheap as hell AND their return policy is really easy. So you can use the tools to build it then clean em up and take them back, like a cheap bastard would do, haha.

I also factored in the gas and time to get the wood, i'd have to buy a whole sheet of wood if i couldn't find some scraps, gas and time to go get the carpet, cost of the spray adhesive, time to get the saws out, take the dimensions, cut it all cut, assemble it and then carpet.

Getting back on topic.

Either go try and build this yourself, or go around to a few stereo shops and ask them for quotes. I think that would be your best bet.
