04 Ranger
Hi all,
Names Dan, I am a Captain in the Army and am stationed up here in the very cold and snowy Fort Drum NY.
I was a mechanic before the army and have allways maintained a project or two since. Additionally I buy and sell motorcycles on the side (buy...fix...sell...profit)
As for the truck, I have owned 2 rangers before (87 4 banger, great truck and a 97 regular cab 4x4 3.0L, also a great truck). The "new" one is a 04 XLT. It is the base model as far as options...no power anything for the most part. BUT...I do have the 4.0L and 4wd.
Not so funny story too....So I bought this thing from a used car dealer (they have a good rep) for 4400. The truck is in really good shape no rust...but it has 162,000 miles. Anyway it needed rear brakes before they sold it, so the shop that put it on forgot to tighten the lug nuts in back...So on my way home, back starts to wobble then bam! all studs sheered off. So the dealer is scrambling to make it right for me. Im not too mad about it just delays when I get to drive it.
Look forward to all the future assists, and hopefully I can lend some too.

Now you all have me curious.
It is badged as a XLT (no damage or accident in the past that I know of or that carfax reports)
1. Crank windows and NO power door locks
2. Yes it has A/C
3. No fog lights (another question I have, it has the spots in the bumber for them but looks like that honeycomb material there instead of lights. Can factory lights be installed here??? Again I dont have the truck yet so I cant look to see what all is going on there.
4. 4.0L 4x4 with 5spd tranny
5. It has rear jump seats.
6. factory cd player
7. bumpers front and back are chrome (I think it may have had the appearance package, not sure)
So what do I have really? haha. Also one of the members has a set of 03 edge seats that appear to be in good condition. They are 60/40 but with a cupholder in the middle console. Whats a fair price?

yeah chrome bumpers mean XLT. Painted means Edge. The XLT package over the XL is basically chrome, some interior stuff like carpet, and AC.
Foglights are super easy to add. You should look for 2 things, do you have the harness in the front behind the bumper for the lights and the yellow clip thing behind the radio bezel.

Hey Dan,
Welcome to R-F
I bought the same exact 2004 XLT 4X4 with the 5-speed manual trans as a doner truck (It rolled over on it's side and the insurance company totalled it out) and I was also wondering why the XLT was so stripped and had no power options. Basically if it has the 5-speed then it doesn't have any power stuff on it. (unless it was a special order.) The only thing that makes it a XLT is the chrome bumpers. (Mine didn't even have carpet flooring) I know it's stupid, but that's the way the dealerships ordered them.
I took the power options from my 2004 2WD XLT and put them on the 4X4.
My 4X4 didn't have fog lights either. The lower valence has the square knock outs though. I'm getting ready to add fog lights to mine, so please keep us posted on weather or not your truck is pre-wired for fog lights.

I'm very curious about that yellow clip ... I was getting ready to buy a fog light wiring harness form a JR, but now I don't know if I need to not.

Ok got the truck today.
As for the fog lights, looking up under the front bumper, there are definitly wiring harness plug adapters ready and clipped up out of the way. As for behind the bezel, I have not done that yet.
Does the bezel just pry off (so to speak)? Are there hidden screws somewhere?
Assuming that the harness is in place behind the bezel, is it correct to say that all I would need is the alternate bezel that has the hole for a fog light switch and the switch itself to be fully functional?
Let me know, thanks.

Update:
Behind the radio bezel, sure enough there is a clip (yellow) that is right there ready to be plugged into a fog light switch.
The only question now is if I bought a new bezel and switch, and lights, would I be good to go? Or is there a fuse or some other component I would have to add/fix/address?

Ok as for the fog lights...they are on a temporary hold until I find a radio bezel that I can use. Would obviously need one with 4/4 switch, both 12v outlets, and the fog light.
I have a fuse in place for the fog lights (15A), but no relay. The way I see it ROCK AUTO will be my source for the lights, relay, and switch. The lights are 30 a piece, the relay is 42, and the relay is about 5. So roughly 100 bucks plus a bezel and I should be GTG with the fog light install....monitoring ebay for bezel....

Im getting a bezel from local yard with 4wd and fog switch for 50 bones. The wiring in the dash at the switch connector went to c144 pins 39 and 44 end there. I used females out of and old Explorer harness stuck them in connector and ran through the firewall to control a relay with factory switch. Pin 44,circuit 474 comes from the SJB controls power to the control circuit. The switch grounds the control circuit. The power circuit I made up with a 15 amp fuse and pigtails for the foglights. Hopefully when I pick up my switch at the yard Mon the SJB sees the fog lights and does its part. Mines an 04 too.
