Hello ,
My name is Monah, and I have just acquired a 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L truck from my brother, who said "needs a smog to get verification in order to get Calif. plates/registration". No big deal right? Wrong! Did the DMV thing and paid the fees and went to get the smog. (truck runs fine) only to fail smog with a "P1443" code MIL/ Check Engine Light Test due to a Warning Lamp Failure. SO,... after I paid the 41.75 to have them say do not pass go do not collect 200... I asked how much to fix it? Well.....at 90.00 per hour to diagnose.. I said forget it, I'll go to Winchester auto. They were nice but said, it could be the bulb or it could be the emission being clogged at which time I would be looking at a good chunk of change to get fixed! SO... I decided to get on the internet and look up the code. Good idea. there was a blog that said it was a CANISTER PURGE SOLENOID/FLOW SENSOR ASSEMBLY (part # 57Z-9C987-AB 2.3L) located behind the driver side headlight. It said it should only take 5 to 10 minutes to install. So, long story short,.. can I do this myself? I really don't have "extra" money to get the wrong part or have it be unnecessary to pass smog. Any advice? I have a temporary permit and times a wasting! Thanks in advance
