Laptop Pedestal

As the title says, has anyone tried to make a pedestal for your laptop, one that sits on the passenger side floorboard or something of the sort? I saw one in a dodge the other day, and I will try to find some pics, as I am attempting to make one tomorrow.

Also, please share with me if you have any ideas on how to make it stable, or secure it so that it doesn't fall over when turning?

Any ideas would be helpful, and I will post a pic of one when I find one.

EDIT: Something like this...Name: dominator-locking-desk-2lrg.jpg

you should utilize both seat bolts for strength at the bottom

Yea I made one several years ago for my truck. It mounts through a vent in the dashboard and is held in by one bolt. I made it so it can be used in multiple positions on a lazy susan so that either the driver or passenger could see it clearly. I used it alot as a gps before I got a garmin.

This is the only picture of it that I have on my computer. It worked great in my truck, never had a problem with it, and the mounting was firm. I can get more pics if people are interested.

The professionally made ones like you see in police/fire vehicles are extremely expensive. Figure on $300+ for one that isn't a piece of crap and that will support the monitor and not go flying.

You can probably make a good one with parts from the hardware store for <$100

what he said. and those suck anyways.. ( have the scars to show it..)

you can easly make one. its literally a plate at the top to secure the laptop down. some sort of mounting device. then a plate at the bottom to secure it to the floor. the way ours mount to the car is it has three prong type deals at the bottom. one goes on the tunnel, one under the dash, (kinda) then one that attaches to the seat track... the unit wont go anywhere, but remember your laptop will slide around.. so make sure how ever you mount it, it wont move..

i put a toggle on the dub7 so i can turn that off, and this will only be in there when i am travelling to/from college, or anywhere else i will need my navigation.

And drew, i will get pics tomorrow, and if you are still interested i can get you one for cheaper than i said, seeing how there are no more decent top arm rests

I always wanted to do this and hook it up to my sterio somehow and play music and movies with the laptop using the car's sterio system. Is that possible?

As it happens, I have one of these, removed from a 2002 Explorer, that's taking up space and collecting dust in my living room. I'd happily let it go for half that price (plus shipping) -- it mounts over the 'hump', attaching to the seat bolts on both the driver and passenger side, and includes the "box" (removeable) for mounting radios, light controllers, etc, as well as the pedestal and platform for the laptop.

If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM and we'll work something out.

yeah, if you have a deck with an aux input, or maybe one with a USB drive...

Yep, its pretty easy. All you need is a aux port on your stereo and a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable. I did that on my trip to texas last year, it was great.

Hmm, I thought there was more to it then that. Now I just need a power inverter for the charger.

Seems like something else I'm gonna integrate into my center console idea. lol.

Need an alarm for the truck too...Not getting the damned laptop stolen, lol.
