in dash CB

i was thinking about HU's and what i would do , switches ect, then i realized that my CB (cobra 19 DX IV) is about the same size as a standard HU, so i looked it up, your standard deck for a car is 53.975 mm tall, and 180.975 mm wide, the CB is 44.5mm tall, and 114mm wide, so it will fit, if i take the stock, double DIN out and put a single DIN in. I should also have room to fit a switch on either side of it... anyone know if this has been done before? pictures? the one thing that i will have to do is wire up a remote speaker because the standard one would be inside of the dashboard...

Haven't seen this done yet, do it! And post pics. I have an extra DIN opening underneath my single DIN deck, never thought about putting a cb there.

I have a factory GM AM/FM/CB/8-track on the shelf here for my Caddy! LOL, If you want to go old school you can get it all in one unit. The CB plays through the radio speakers. It is actually pretty neat.

i guess i could put this in this thread, the new head unit i'm going to buy has to be several things, 1) fairly nice, i was a huge fan of the panasonic ghost deck, 2) audio input (3.5mm jack) in the BACK of the unit 3) reasonably priced, i'm thinking 200$ or less...

i'm looking at some on crutchfeild right now

specifically this one... thoughts? (i know it doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, buti can put adapters on the JVC's to make it 3.5mm

so i looked into actually getting it, because i totally want it now! but they don't ship to canada :'( i gotta find someone in the states that will forward it to me nor will they ship to my po box that i have down there i think my next option is to ship it to my uncle in colarado, then ship it up to my place... but that's going to suck because it's probably going to cost a lot...

The factory antenna will most likely not give you near enough range

No, the radio antenna will not work as a cb antenna, however, a cb antenna will work as a radio antenna. A cb antenna needs to be tuned to the correct length to work properly.

buck said exactly what i was going to say... jeff, thanks for the link, all the hu's they have on there suck *****, same with the same price range in store... i think i am going to be able to get the one from the american site, including the shipping from my uncle's to my place in canada, for cheaper than a ****ty deck from the canadian site...

I don't understand why there is such limited selection on the Crutchfield Canada site. We Canadians get shafted on everything.

i have seen this done in a 4x4 magazine (petersons offroad i think) where there was a ranger belonging to a member of this site that was featured with the RCD kit and a sick box rack. in the head unit there was a cobra cb radio mounted in the dash with a speaker that was on the same face as the display. i tried every where to get one and everyone said that such a thing does not exist good luck to ya, post some pics when your done.
