SVTRangers SAS thread
Alrite here we go. ive been planning this for years finally just diving headfirst into it. Ive been working on it for a few weeks now. theres a story behind that. i was having a trans fluid leak between the tcase and tranny and forun that the bolts had loosend in it and the tcase was loose. it still drove fine but damn. so we weighed our options and desided instead of fixin it we would just rip the truck apart and sas it. enough talk onto the pics. and by the way i dont want any negative comments in here. im doin things the way i wana do them. i dont think anyones ever SASd a truck like this before. contructive comments are welcome but no negativity please. thanks.
im not building this truck to be a rock crawler, a trail truck, or a dune truck. its going to be a mud truck. thats why im going for as much altitude as i can get. i plan on running at minimum 40s. we dont have rocks dunes or trails in wisconsin. we mud here. the only trail place is pipeline and thats mud trails thatll swallow trucks on 44s+.

the specs on the rear are:
axle is a full width GM 10 bolt.
will have 5.13 gears and probably be lincoln locked.
the springs are chevy 1500 springs with a ranger top spring 5 leafs with a overload. on the stock block for now and stock shackle. i plan on getting a chevy lowering shackle tho. Why chevy 10 bolts you ask. well because thats wat i have siting around. i have 3 rears and a front.

I had 35s on the truck. at this point the rears on 33s and is sittin a few inches higher than the front. i didnt get near the lift i wanted out of the back but this is only trial and error number 1. it will be higher.

Why not find yourself a chevy D60/14bolt combo and run that? They are much cheaper then ford axles and will be a much better fit for 40"+ tires.

alrite onto the real business end of this fiasco.
again the specs are as follow:
axle is a front GM 10bolt
will have 5.13 gears and a locker
i reamed out the nuckles to flip the tie rod over on top.
the axle already has Warn hubs and new brakes and calipers. theres a 1in block in there to.
the springs are chevy 1500 rear springs with a rear ranger AAL and no overload.
again im not making some hugely flexy rockcrawler. i wantd a spring pack that wont sag under the weight of the 5.9L. it will still flex out tho. i also switchd out transfercases from the NP231 to a NP208.

this is the first time a had the axle under it. my jack stands were maxd out and the pumkin was hitn the pivot bracket.

IMG_0321.jpg?t=1213595621
IMG_0323.jpg?t=1213595645
and thats with the front on 31s.
after getin some taller stands and some 2 by 8s i got it up to just about where it will be with the springs on it. its currently 8ins higher than the rear. with the front on 31s and rear on 33s.

now the front is back out so i can do work on the frame. i need to plate it in and build the front spring hanger/crossmember. im also going to be running a front hitch.

Great deal on some axles that will be able to hold up.
Get rid of that front block. Build that inch of lift into the leaf hangers, much safer and you wont get axle wrap from hangers like you would the block.

the axle perchs arent permanent. nothing is welded or set in stone yet. its all for mock up. trust me im not dumb enough to trust that lil perch i just had it sitn around so i used it. and i had these axles already. if i dont like them later on the beauty of custom is i can change them if i want. its all trial and error. one day i will have worked every bug out. but money is the main issue now. and the block will be gone. id rather build it to be bigger than it is that way itll offset the sag if i design it with it in. and im guna be running traction bars front and rear

interesting setup, seems you are worried about getting opinions ? lol
a D60 and 14FF would be a sweet addition to the SBC.
If you are interested in getting that rear end lifted look for some Pro Comp Chevy Lift springs, they make 3.5", 5.5" and 7.5" lift spring for chevys, that will add like 5.5", 7.5", and 9.5" to a ranger.

Long story short......burnout in 2nd gear, thought he needed to downshift, so he downshifted, and snapped a shaft and tweaked the housing. Thisis the same guy that has split Th400 cases in half. He's now 2.5t rockwell'd.

thanks guys. yeah eventually my goal is a set of dana 60s or a 14bolt but to get all thebracketry and angles figured out the 10 bolts will do for now. i had originally traded my old 350 for a set of axles. when they showed up at my door they turned out to be nothing like they were described. the front was a dana 44 (i think) but it was front drum and instead of normal knuckles it had some weird *****. i dont know. and the rear was a FF dana 80. youd think thatd be good but it had no axle shafts, no pinion yoke or diff cover and the carrier had been welded. so needless to say the guy got em back in the middle of his front yard. so for now ill use wat i got. and Zach im not worried about getting opinions, contrary imlooking for as much advise and opinions i can get. its just theres alot of ways that i do things my way that leave room for someone with say a nice big shop and unlimited budget to judge me on and thats not what im looking for in here. but thanks again to everyone.

alrite so i got a little done on it. im lookin for some metal to make the front hangers and such rite now. but i did get my new fuel system completly done. and i also started building my new rear shackles. it almost sits level righte now. but the front will be a good 6-8 inches higher by the time all the hangers are said and done. but anyways heres some more pics of where shes at now.
