TB and Maf upgrade....
Well some of you know i have a super charger in the works right now but I have a maf and throttle body layin in my house collecting dust so i thought they would do more good on my 3.0L than sitting on the floor waiting for the supercharger. I took a ton of measurements and figured out that it would work...
Here are the specs of my mini project:
95 mustang 5.0L Throttle body: 65mm
97 explorer 5.0L MAFS: 70mm
Since there is a ton of restriction in the 3.0L's maf AND TB, i thought this would be a good upgrade for my motor. I obviously know Ill need a tune, I have that in the works right now as we speak to get the tune file loaded up on the xcal3 i have. That wont be an issue.
Right now im waiting on a few parts in the mail such as the maf adapter for this size maf and some new couplers because the diameter of the tb and maf was increased.
The reason i choose this throttle body from the mustang gt was because the sensors are interchangeable and on the correct side i need them in AND the throttle wheel is in the correct location so no modification for that is needed. The only problem i see with the mustang throttle body is the need to drill new holes for the mounting holes, thats an easy fix as they are only off by maybe a 1/4in.
The MAFS from the explorer needs no modification done to it. The plug on my wiring harness fits directly in to the mafs. using the same exact connector. This is where the tune will come in to play.
Here is a few pictures so you can get an idea of how different the diameters are:
Throttle body comparisons:
and
The explorer MAFS and mustang Throttle body side by side
These will probably go in some time next week... :)
