Ford Ranger FX4 door configuration help
Yo, my name is Ben and I am new to this site so please bear with me. I have been looking at Ford Ranger FX4's and LVII's and I have not been able to find them in 2-door configurations. I preferably like 2-door supercab Rangers over 4-door supercab rangers simply because I like them better and the 2-doors look better structured. I have noticed in the event of a accident that 2-door rangers have been better off; sometimes the 4-door Rangers rear doors fall off in an accident.
http://erepairables.com/private-salv...-ranger-221263
So I was wondering if any1 has seen any 2-door ranger FX4's? (and LVII's) (or has at least heard of them) Especially 2006 models and up. If they simply don't exist how much would it cost to change a 4-door ranger into a 2-door Ranger?
I know 4-d rangers are more convenient, but hey I really like the 2d ext cab 1z better simply because I do. Hope to post new threads in the future, Thanks.

@dbking321 - If I were to get 1 I would aim for black, but trading cabs would most certainly be interesting although I would want to keep the FX4's interior (: That and the complicated process of exchanging and distance would be an issue to. Would like to get a quote on how much it would cost to change from a 4d to a 2d and vice versa as well as cab exchange costs.
@01bandanaedge - That's what I presumably believed before but like I said, I have never seen the rear panels on the 2door fall off in any accident while I have seen the rear doors of the 4d fall off a couple of times. an example is given in the pic and link. Looking closely at the door panels on the 2d, there is a pillar that connects the bottom to the roof while in the 4d configuration no such pillar exists and is replaced by suicide doors. I would like to see some comparisons as to verify or disprove my gut feeling.
So does any1 know the answers to my stated above questions?

just an FYI, my ranger is a 4 door and was in a roll over accident before i bought it and the rear 2 doors were the only thing that saved the rest of the cab from being destroyed. those doors are the strongest part of the cab structure wise so i wouldnt worry too much. that being said, i could never go back to a 2 door after having the 4 doors. you will find its going to be very expensive and time consuming to do a cab swap, especially if you have to have it painted to match your truck. not worth it IMO.

I personally have never seen a 2 door FX4 or LVL2.
2dr Supercabs are not that uncommon. I see them all the time. Mine is also a 2dr supercab. You can find them with the XLT trim package.
Why do you want a FX4 or LVL2 so bad?
I personally also dislike having 2 doors instead of 4. Its a pain when you need to get into the back.

@dbking321 - Its possible just very unlikely, it would most certainly be troublesome.
@djfllmn - If any exist I want to aim for 1, please tell me if you find any. Like I said in previous comments (check above) I know the 4d are more convenient (trust me I know I have fit 5 people including myself into my 2d ranger) but I just like the 2d more because it seems structurally stronger and simply because I do.
@01_ranger_4x4 - Very interesting, how exactly did the rear doors save the rest of the cab? I posted a picture and a link as a sample of what I have seen after a 4d ranger has been in an accident. If I can make the money I just might do what i can to do a conversion.
@every1 - Stepsides FTW

@wyldechild - I have a lot of friends who are also off-road enthusiast. Its never impressive when you are with the off-road guys and show up in a simple XLT 2wd Ranger. Every1 at least has 4x4 and I sadly don't even have that, I can not tell you how many times 2wd has let me down. you wouldn't know cause you are blessed enough to have 4x4. Also I just really like the FX4's and LVII's because they are really awesome and are more of a serious truck than your normal ranger. If you look above I have a link and a picture of an example of what sometimes happens when a 4d ranger is in an accident. I like the 2d because structurally there is a pillar that connects from top to bottom while in the 4d no such pillar exists. Also I like the way the rear jump seats come out of the 2d as opposed to the wimpy appearing 1z in the 4d. It has its pains (have fit 5 people in before) but in the end I thinks its benefits outrun the pains. I would like to see the same crash tests done to both a 2d and a 4d ranger doors opened and closed as to verify or disprove my feeling.

the point of damage and roof compression abruptly stopped where the rear doors meet the roof. those front doors collapsed while the rear doors took the entire weight of the truck and held. the left rear door was bowed slightly but we were able to straighten it with the frame machine but it wasnt easy, those doors are very very strong. that pic you posted, did you take that picture yourself? it appears as if the doors were removed possibly to extract the passenger, doesnt look at all like they were ripped off during the collision.
BTW. you can use the "quote" or "multi quote" button when replying to posts so you dont have to type "@ so and so" every time. way easier

Gotcha, lol, I'm new, may use both ways. Well I am glad your ok, truck looks like it went through a lot but still strong. IDK, I guess it depends on the accident. No, I found it while searching for Rangers. But its not the 1st time I have seen the rear doors give, but weather they were ripped off or not idk, if you check the link it appears that the rest of the truck is in tact, so it would appear that the guy got hit from his right at the passenger front and rear side. passenger could of been extracted from the left.

does that have a salvage title on it?
I work in a safety building, and from firsthand experience, i can say rear doors make a difference. I rolled a reg cab Dakota back in 04, i spent a few in the hospital after that one. i've seen tons of rolled trucks, but most of which that are 4 doors usually survive the wreck.
That truck that OP posted, I'm pretty sure that the door was an after thought kinda thing, like it didn't happen during the wreck.

Wow, i would have never guessed that your truck was a roll over truck.

Interesting but you rolled a dakota which, well is a pretty crappy truck especially compared to the Ranger. also what needs to be factored in is the different kinds of accidents weather its roll over, a hit from the front side or rear. Also you rolled a regular cab, we are talking about comparing a 2d Ranger supercab to a 4d supercab. Like I said I would like to see test results comparing them both from different accident possibilities, but this blue rolled over Ranger is defiantly legitimate.

!FORUM UPDATE!
Alright guys I have not yet found any crash tests to compare the same accident applied to both a 2d supercab and a 4d supercab. But after hours and months of searching I have finally found 1ONE1 2-door supercab Ford Ranger FX4! FINALLY. here is a link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89WI0whrv4Y
The only things I don't like about it is its not black, no rear sliding window, seats are not black therefore they can get dirty easily, and no fun little jump seats to cram my friends in. What do you guys think?
NOTE: If any1 finds any FX4's or LVII's in 2d supercab configuration (especially if its black) please post the link(s) on this thread. It would greatly be appreciated. So far this is the only 1 I have found so as you can guess 2d FX4 supercabs are EXTREMELY rare. There are still some questions to be answered on this thread so if any1 knows anything please feel free to fire away.

Your honestly wasting your time, an xlt 4x4 will put the power down just as well as a level 2, and to get the better fx4 interior you need to find a level 2 which they NEVER made in a 2dr.
Only difference between the xlt and regular fx4 interior is the carpet in the xlt.. Find a 2dr xlt and do a few mods to it to make it what you want, ranger parts are cheap and easy to come by

I know I am just being picky, but its what I am searching for. Everybody is picky and is strong about something. I found 1 autotrader black fx4 that fits my criteria but its 20k, and that isn't something I can pay off right away. Well as was stated the LVII can't be found in 2dr but was able to find at least the existence of a 2dr fx4. as far as the accident picture is concerned, I don't know I have just seen several pictures like that. I don't know if it was ripped off, or if it was ripped off because of damage or what not. I am sure that the 4drs are safe, (I believe Ranger got at least a 4* if not a 5* crash test rating) I just have seen more promising results from the 2dr.
