Hard to shift gears, 2.3L manual transmission

I have a 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3L 5spd. manual transmission 124,000km, I just installed a new clutch kit (clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing) and now it's hard to shift gears, it also grinds when I shift into reverse. I did change the fluid, because it was a little dark and bled the slave cylinder, no leaks in system. This problem only started after I installed the new clutch; any help will be greatly appreciated.
