I have a 99 2.5L Ranger and randomly the ABS light comes on while driving. This is usually while I am on the freeway, not sure if that is just a coincidence or not but seems to only happen at higher speeds. I was reading and many suggested issues with the sensor on top of the rear diff and it possibly causing speedo issues as well. When I bought my truck it had a bad speed sensor and the speedo didn't work. A replacement was bought at AutoZone and installed. The speedo works now but doesn't come on til @ 30mph. The light doesn't come on when starting the truck, and when it does come on its usually only for a few mins then it goes away.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

 

Change the VSS again. One connector, one bolt, <$20 part.
Clean the square connector under the cab, pack w/ dielectric grease.

 

Thanks for the tip. Any particular part/brand I should get. This one was from autozone, don't remember brand but it has to be going about 30 mph before it even shows on speedo which is a bit annoying.

No idea on brands, but clean the bore and make sure it is fully seated when you install it.

Sounds like your "replacement" is gapped too distant from the gear. Might get off with a free fix, if that's the case.
