98 XLT 2.5 MPG's
I've been looking around on the forums, and been searching for threads relating to MPG for the Rangers but it seems to be the 2.3 comes up a lot more than the 2.5l. It's a 98 XLT 2wd 2.5 w/ 4.10 gears, auto trans, and regular cab. I've filled up and calculated since i've bought the truck, and come up with 19.7 mpg's. It seems a bit low, i'm doing combined driving, probably a little more highway than city.
The air filter is good, MAF and TB is extremely clean. I pulled a few plugs and they don't seem to be terrible. They are the Motorcraft Platinums, with OE wires that look fairly new. It has 142k miles, and i'm using 5w-30 valvoline max life. Oil seems to look extremely clean and not dirty at all.
I've thought about replacing the o2 sensors, and maybe the plugs first. I know the shocks need to replaced, but I don't think it would affect the MPG's that much? But I want some of your guyses thoughts on this. So any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Mine has 157,000 miles on it. Right now I get about 18-19 with the 31's and 4.10's. When I was stock with 3.73 gears the most I ever saw was 24 which was all interstate and averaged 22 maybe all the other times. I also have a manual trans.
Do you have any idea of when the plugs were replaced last?

No idea on the plugs. I pulled a couple and they didn't look horrible. The wires look fairly new but everything on the truck is extremely clean so idk if I can go off the looks of the wires. I got newer 225/70r15's on her, so nothing oversized. She does seem a little hesitant on power, but I'm sure thats due to power to weight ratio.
Should I just go and replace the plugs w/ OE Motorcraft Platinums or is there any better plugs to install??
