SAS d30. coilovers vs coils
So I'm in the planning stages of my solid axle swap.
Using a high pinion d30 from an xj. So its setup for coils.
In reading all the threads regarding this swap I see the ranger frame and the coil mounts on a d30 don't mesh well. As in the coils will be at an angle and hit the frame possibly.
Would coilovers be a good way to go to get around that? What are your thoughts on running coilovers? Any reason not to?

i had the same question. lucky to have a professional chassis and suspension builder is doing mine and i thought i could do the same. probably going to notch the frame and do some serious fab work to run coils. i dont know right now still stacking parts for the build.
im surprised with all the smarts and oppinions on this forum that not one person has responded?
i would like to know as well.

Im sure it could be done quite easily, but after searching I have found no pre-fabbed brackets to convert a d30 over to coilovers. Which surprised me being jeep aftermarket is pretty strong.
Custom fabbed brackets will have to be the way to go. I'm still deciding which way to go. Probably just coils to keep the price down.

I'm also trying to make a decision between coils and coilovers for the d30 sas on my 07 fx4. I was thinking coilovers and conversion brackets for simplicity and saving some fab work with buckets and shock towers. Ill be following this thread! Also see you're from Canada EH What province? I just moved out to Alberta in August.

Eww, guess I'll stick with coils then. I did see a swap on trs on a 98 that he just used the bucket/tower assembly from a ttb truck. Might try that route, or f250 towers and modified ttb bucket. Have you decided on steering/box/track bar yet? I'm not sure if I should order jeep steering and stuff from Rusty's or get custom made drag link/trac bar.

I have never made a conversion from Coils to Coil-Overs but it looks straight forward, I didn't say simple.
The fab house that I am going to use IF I get this done, talked about using Coil-Overs, yes more money but from what I am told they can be modified for ride and weight easier.
You will need mounting, seems straight forward but then you need to buy the shocks and springs, how much... Guessing 2k$... Anyone know ?
If you can do the coil-Over setup to me it would be the best way to go.

Planning a SAS on my 98 and think I am going to go with coils instead of Coilovers just based on cost. However, Leaf Springs are a simple obtion as well but I think it is gonna be coils with either a 3 link or Radius arm setup!
Probably use Ballistic mounts on the axle and frame and going to run FW axles to get the width that I need!
