Ive been noticing alot of noise under my truck and went to a \autozone and was told my stablizer links were the problem and they are, very loose espically the left front side..question is i bought the parts and tried to do it myself but to remove the bar was a issue so i put the old parts back, now i gotta find someone who knows how to fix it but it will be a week before i find anyone to do it.. if i stay off the highway, will i be ok till i get it fixed?

Its a 1999 Ford Ranger standard..two wheel front drive and where issue is at..

 

Where you trying to remove the whole bar or just the links?

Ten minute job with the tires on and the truck on the ground, lots of time dropping that last washer and bushing for me. You might need an 18 mm deep wall socket to finish the job. Tighten down till you can't spin the bushing with your fingers. These are the type I got.

 

Just incase no one told you it is normal (ok for me it is) for the old link bolt to break. I always figured it's ok because the new link has a new bolt and nut.

 

I have the tools to do it, I attempted it yesterday (sat) to remove the link, I was able to to remove the nut from the bottom, i slid it out but the sleeve and the screw would not come out, so i put it back together, what do i need to do to remove the parts to insert the new links?

 

so do i break it off?

 

Cut it off just below the stabilizer bar and you'll get it out.

 

What he said. Break out the sawzall or cutoff wheel and be done with it.

 

Rust builds up on the bolt inside that sleeve and cause it to get stuck near the ends of the sleeve. Spray some WD-40 or BP plaster down the bolt, Crimp the sleeve with a vice grip pliers and try tapping the bolt up from the bottom, when the bolt is almost all the way into the sleeve then switch the vice grip to the bolt then hold the sleeve with a channel lock pliers and twist it back and forth. Add more WD-40 if you need to.
