Superlift vs. RCD
#2
4" Superlift: Uses drop brackets to drop everything down. Stock suspension, but dropped down. Cheapo shocks. Cheaper lift...more affordable. Torsion drops hang too low.
5.5" RCD: Uses drop brackets to lower the front crossmember, gets rid of the torsion bars, and adds coil-overs. Premium shocks(Bilstein 5100)(RIDES GREAT!). Best kit imo.

Thanks for the heads up on the correction...it's an RCD 5" lift. I was just wondering because I have a buddy that has a 2003 sporttrac and he lifted it with an RCD lift designed for a ranger (with a few modifications) and he had to cut some of the sheet metal of the wheel well to prevent rubbing.

you can put 35's on a truck with just the rcd, imo its not worth the price unless you truly want coilovers that bad, the drop brackets are low but not in the way too often as you would think, its not meant to be a rock crawler and thats generally when they will be in the way, you can also get as much lift with the superlift as the rcd.........just upgrade the shocks and the way you life the rear and your good to go

I think you're right on the torsion crank. We just finished his superlift and torqued his torsions and it sat up there nicely! Only thing is, it'll settle back down.
I have the RCD and I love it... Just figuring out how I'm going to get the front end level without sacrificing the rear height. Other than that, It's a great kit, I love the ride and it wheels nicely! In deep snow, the front x-member acts like a plow which sucks, but it still goes where I want it...
I've got the RCD with a 3" BL and I will still rub the front valance at full turn with the tire pushed up in it a lil.. Oh yah, I've got 35's.... So if you want no rubbing, go with 33's

Dollar for dollar, the lift and performance you get from the Superlift is superior to the RCD kit. If you've got tons of money to spend, get the RCD, it's pretty cool, and you'll be happy with it. If you want nearly the same performance (I'm talking articulation of the wheels and ground clearance) for half the price, get the Superlift. It's strong, it's affordable (more than the RCD) and you won't have to buy new brake rotors or get anything welded. I would buy the Superlift kit again before I bought the RCD kit.

RCD is nice but in the end both are still IFS... which sucks
if you just want the looks of a lifted truck get the Superlift - save the extra money
if you want to wheel the truck pretty hard save the money on install and crap and do a SFA
like gumby said a while back, due to having the stock geometry on the control arms with the RCD you still have the same amount of travel

Yep,
That's why I put a superlift lift kit in my ranger-for the look of a lifted truck.
The fact of the matter is that RCD had a crap load of problems with this lift kit from the get go. (Whether it be bracketry failure or CV failure). The superlift kit (other than the sway bar links and the rear blocks) has been solid for me, for the last five years. I've wheeled the hell out of my truck and haven't managed to break anything remotely contected to the suspension lift (except for two sets of lower moog ball joints (moogs suck). If you want to put a lift kit in the sport trac- run a body lift. Go over to fordtruckworld.com or explorer.com and look up John Johnstone. That guy managed to wheel the hell out of a sport trac with only a body lift and 35's. You name, he's done it in his 01 sport trac.
To be perfectly honest, if I was going to keep the IFS in my truck (which I may) I'll probably invest in the RCD kit. It seems to encompass what I would want in both a lift (3") and long travel kit. Paired with a body lift, you can run 35's no problem.

Why not look into a used RCD kit. I know of a couple for sale right now. I bought mine used and haven't had a single problem with it. My kit was actually the prototype kit originally installed on DesertSpive's truck so its been used more than any other RCD kit out there. It cost a lot less than even a new Superlift costs and came with a few perks that the production kits didn't get.
Anyways what I'm saying is, it wouldn't hurt to look into a used kit, you'll save some cash that way.
