Explorer rear end in 1990 Ranger

I'm wanting to lower my truck and I know the ford explorer axle is located on the top of the leaf springs as where the ranger is on the bottom so putting a explorer axle would make it so I wouldnt have to use a flip kit as I was told 4wd explorers came with a LSD my truck is a 1990 and the rear end would be coming from the same era explorer. Is there anything I need to look for in the rear end like what would be best gears and what not? Thank you in advance for any info.
