RCD questions

I have read that the 5 inch RCD kit does not work on 2003.5 4x4 with the taller rotors ? That true ? If so is it possiable to to use the older smaller rotors and brakes ? Where can you get an RCD lift I have only seen one place on-line an that was www.performancelifts.com and they want $2,200. Is that a good price ? Where alse can I get one ?

when i was talking to RCD about my lift, the told me, all you would have to do, is downsize the rotors and you will be fine.

if you downgrade from the 12 inch rotors to the 11.25 inch rotors you can install the kit. if u are going to buy new rotors that are smaller it is a good idea to get drilled or slotted rotors. rotors are the only thing stopping the 2003.5 + rangers from the rcd working.

as far as places i got mine from a Local 4x4 shop called MTO Suspension, they kicked ***!

What is it about 3/4 of an inch of rotor that stops you from installing this lift ? I mean come on that seems so little stopping you.

I think he's asking why won't the 12" rotor fit w/ the kit. What part of the kit precludes using the larger rotor?

It is hte front rotor right? The rotor was made to work with a torsion bar suspension, so I'm guessing the spring or arms get in the way. If its on the backside I'm not sure. But just visit a junkyard! If ya think about it, 99% of trucks/cars in car crashes don't break the braking system, so you can prolly downgrade for cheap.

Why not get Superlift? It's just as good I believe.

And don't run larger than 35s BTW, you're gonna break lots of stuff.

hes been told that lots of times. lol
that is what he wants so dont worry about it, its not his DD anyway.

new rotors are cheap just buy new ones.

i dont think superlift is as good. torsion bars < coilovers

Superlift makes you retain your torsion bars. RCD lift replaces them with coilovers. There's photos over on offroadrangers.com of someone with a 2003 (I think) ranger that has the superlift. His torsions hang REALLY low = lacking clearance.

EDIT: here's the link, it was an '04 4x4. Notice where the torsion bar is in the 3rd photo! Compare that to photos of Jared's (rangerboy03lvl2) truck with the RCD. Finally Lifted! - '04 with superlift

Ya know what nevermind I don't care why the rotor don't work, I don't want this post to be about the rotors.

All I need to change is the rotors right ? The caliper and stuff is fine right ?

Yessir.

The t-bar drop bracket wasn't so bad. I've had wheels a foot or two in the air without getting hung up on the drop brackets. IMO it was worth saving the extra money.

The RCD lift sure would be sweet though! Maybe for my new truck.

the t-bars are actually in the same place as they were stock, not any lower. if i had the money and had the choice i would prolly get the superlift, but only because i just cant justify spending that much money on my truck.

I don't think its that big of a difference in price so for the little bit extra I think the RCD is worth it.

rcd is better :D

your calipers and everything else will work .... the placement of the caliper bracket to the spindle is what stops the 12 inch rotor from fitting.

RCD shock tower (top) has to be welded on
that makes it normally a contracted install
super lift is a bolt on and easier for a shade tree mechanic
if I lift it will be RCD - good by torsion bars....
hopefully in a year or two RCD will modify the design for newer Rangers

the shock tower doesnt have to be welded on ... it uses the stock shock tower the only welding is support for the shock tower ... since all the weight of the truck is trasnfer there...

are those supports the only parts that need to be welded?

hmmmm.........

while I'm hear. Jared, is there a heavier duty output shaft made for our trucks? I plan on doing 33s if/when I lift. However, I've been thinking of "doing it right" and saving up for lift, lift install (includes weld), gears, gear install, new rotors, and tires. I figure if I do that I might as well go with 35s instead of 33s, but would I need a BL to stuff the 35s? I know you're running a 3" BL. I was thinking about getting a custom 1" BL just to expose my frame a little more so I can do rock sliders. Ehhh, I need to stop thinking about all this and focus on school and work until I graduate this coming May. But it's so fun to think about it.

yeah i got a heavy duty shaft from ford .... but we will see how heavy duty it is....

i wouldnt replace it unless urs breaks. its expensive (glad i know how lol) to replace you have to tear down the whole transmission to do it ...

well im not sure if u have to have a bl for 35s .... but i did it ... i can run bigger tires if i want but 35s are good enough for me... for now lol

good luck chris....

good luck Ben you truck is gonna be sweet!

Hey scott id get under there and weld them asap .... you dont want your shock tower to rip off ... lol

I am really just thinking out loud here, I think maybe in a year or two, hopefully in a year or less. I have to see what all is going on at work. Look at my tax returns and go from there.
