265/75/16 to 33x12.5x15 on 3:73 Gears

I've been running E range 265/75/16 MT MTZ's for about 40000km and am looking to get a BL and 33x12.5x15' MTZ's on 15x8 ProComp 7069 rims. I noticed a big difference when I went from stock tires 255/70/16 to 265 MTZ's but have gotten used to it over time. When I upgrade to 33x12.5 MTZ's after a BL I don't expect to notice much difference as the new tires are only .8" taller and 3 pounds heavier per tire. Truck is an 08 4.0L 5spd with 3:73 gears and currently get 16-19 mpg. Think I can manage on this setup for awhile?

You'd be surprised a what a small change can do. I have the same setup but with 4.10's. I couldn't imagine it with 3.73's. I want to upgrade too 4.56's.

When I first seen the title I was going to explain that there just about the same overall diameter. The 5 pounds is not a whole lot. The width is going to cause a bit more drag. I ran that same setup on my 2008 sport manual with the same gears. It sucks for wheeling and towing anything. Not good for the clutch at all. But still drive able. Plan to re-gear. I went to 410's on 33's worked decent. Then i went to 35's and need more gear again :(

Do the right gear the first time lol

Drive her till she blows....gears that is, then upgrade to 4.10's. Or swap em out now.

"Drive her till she blows" What is going to blow. Not the gears thats for sure. That comment makes no sense.

My 4.10s changed a little but not too much would imagine 3.73s would change alot

Get a tuner though so your shift points wont be horribly off

If you do regear (which you absolutely should) you should go ahead and do 4.56s. Skip the 4.10s all together.

Your effective gear ratio will be 3.45. The difference between stock and the 33x12.5 is 7.6%. If you dont tow or haul much don't worry about a regear. Do you really want to turn 2500+ rpms on the freeway anyways? It's excessive imo. If you really wanna regear go with 4.10's it will bring you back to stock gearing plus a little more

By that time your clutch will be fried and so will your patience, do the 4.56 with the tire swap, save yourself some indigestion. BTDT

I was going to say something similar but I figured the best lessons are learned the hard way.

I currently have 33's with 3.73 gears with the 3.0, and its not toooo bad. It can be kind of annoying on the highway at times but I have gotten used to it.

Omg that must be horrible... I cant even imagine that. Mine is OK and i have 32.8's with 4.10 gear and its not the best. You really need 4.56 IMHO

I'm running 31's on 3.73 gears with a 3.0L auto. I want to go for some 4.10's to give me some extra boost.

33's might be a little fun on ya with those gears and a 3.0L.
