Painting Teardrops

I have the 16" teardrop rims on my ranger and it is cheaper to paint them black than get new rims. The rims have some sort of clear or something on them, so my question is how do I get that off? I know I can't paint right over it so i need to remove it before I paint. They are stock and have had no aftermarket clear or anything like that. Let me know what you think!!

Get the steel wool with soap in it. I used that on the wheels on the rsx I had and it sands and cleans at the same time. Came outawesome!

I used aircraft paint stripper. Took a couple coats. Then some sanding.

I like the look of the wheels in the last photo, i want a glossy look though. I have the same tires on my truck as the fronts on that truck so thanks for the photo that helps out a lot!!!!

On the last pic i didn't put any clearcoat on them, if i would have the look is super glossy.I think i used a flat black instead of gloss. which would make em pop even more..
