Which Brand has the Widest footprint?

Looking at getting some new 33 x 12.50 R15 tires for my Ranger. I have BFGoodrich All Terrains, and they are a little narrow for my taste. I was wondering which tire brand in an all terrain has a wider footprint.

Uh they are going to be the same width hitting the ground depending on how much air is in the tire. If you want wider than 12.5" get some 14.5" wide tires or just let some air out.

I really dont suggest 12.50 tires on a 7" rim....

Get toyos...33x13.50r15. Get 15x10's.

Figuring you have a rim that is not even recommended for a 12.50 because it is so skinny, it'd be wise to get a 15x10 if you want a foot print...

(not saying people dont run 15x7s with 12.50s, they just know that fairly dramatically affects the patch vs 15x10s)

Hmm...interesting. Just jumped 3", anyway. Tire brand still wont matter on the patch. Just pick the tire you want since you're running 15x10s now...

While we're learning so much, lol. What tires are on there now (size)? and how much lift?

Just making sure you aren't getting something that doesn't fit..

I'm not trying to poke fun or anything. i understand. But i'm just trying to make sure you aren't going to buy a 33 that doesnt fit. Do you know how much or what kind of lift is on your truck?

F-it....

12.50 tire on 10 rim w/ 4" backspace....

Tread width is tire size dependant, NOT brand dependant.

I dont know guys. a 31x10.50 super swamper "appears" to have a wider/beefier stance than a comparable sized BF goodrich A/T. IMO

Mud terrains look wider and look taller compared to all terrains. That's a definately given. For Example....98+ 4x4......bodylifted with 32's can get away with it easier because of the style of tire...appears bigger. 32" at's...just look too darn small. Typically, MT's have tread that flow into the sidewall, giving it a larger appearence. It is just an optical illusion.

OP...

Here's 15x10 and 33x13.50R15 Toyo Mud Country's....

There's your problem. Get wider wheels. Those all-terrains should treat you pretty well then unless you want to get wider tires.

I can't remember, but do the tire manufactures measure the "overall" width, or the carcass width/height. I think I remember hearing somewhere that Interco tires usually measure considerably bigger that what they publish. And the opposite in other tire companies.

A wider wheel isn't going to increase the "foot print" as long as you've been running proper PSI to maintain the right contact patch. The tread width is what makes the foot print.
A wider wheel is going to make the "overall width" wider, and it will look wider.
I can't answer which brand has the widest tread pattern, because it all varies per tire. Some websites will list tread width, sometimes you'll have to search on manufacturers websites for the info.
I've heard that BF Goodrich tires are commonly undersized. I haven't looked much, but I ran BFG's on my F150 because I heard other 35's would rub with my setup.

Tire manufacture websites show sizes and note what size wheel was used to measure those sizes. Just look up BFG or Procomp or Pitbull and check 'em out. You'll see alot of similarities when looking at the same size tires with differing brands.
