Looking at wheels for my truck...not buying anytime soon-just browsing and trying to get ideas on what id like.
preferrably like them to stick out. and since i just spend 700 bucks on the tires this past fall-id like to keep them. there 265 70r 16



what i know-
5x4.5 bolt pattern
at least 4" backspacing?
8 to 10" wheel width?

for example-i havent seen alot of people with 10" wheel widths or 9". 8" seems to be popular. why not larger? what brands are good? what color do you guys think would look good?

 

If you plan to lift it i'd get a 15" wheel. bigger tires for 16" wheels are usually E-rated and they'll ride pretty damn stiff even if you lower the psi a bit since they're meant for heavy full-size trucks. in a 15 you'll still be able to get c-rated load range.

if you plan to leave it stock height then just get a 16. I ran into the same problem, my 265 75 16's had probably 10k miles on them but luckily i sold them for a good price on craigslist.

Personally, i'd go with a polished aluminum wheel. They're lighter than a steel wheel but you just need to keep them clean. 10" wide with flares is pretty common but I still prefer 8's. i barely made it through a trail during the last meet we had with my 8's because they were rubbing against two trees. with 10's i wouldn't have a chance unless i had a chainsaw

my truck on the far left on 15x8's and the truck in the middle is on 15x10s, both running 33x12.5R15. they poked about the same just that he had a bit wider of a "footprint". backspacing and offset is key to how much you want to have them poke

 

yea i think im gonna end up keeping stock height only because id have to get new tires as well. i mean if i could sell mine and get a decent price and get a larger tire that will fit for now till i increase height that would work.

id say my tires are around 5000 to 7000 miles old. think i could get enough for them to help get something larger with a nice wheel.

if im gunna stick with 16's-what offset, wheel width, backspace is popular?


haha good edit-i like yours-i think 10 might be too much from the looks of it-i do have flares but the 10 might absolutely destroy my mpg (thats not what im primarily concerned about but like to keep it in mind)- I kind of understand backspacing-what offsets are common-what did you have?

 

Alright in that case just stick with a 16. I don't know how much you could get. get an overview of the market on craigslist and get an idea for what similar tires in that size are selling for.

the backspacing isn't much less than a stock wheel so you'll barely notice a difference in "poke" but your footprint will be a bit wider since you'll be going from a 16x7 to a 16x8. backspacing on stock wheels is 4.5" and these are 4.438" so there isn't much of a difference.

when looking at back spacing, the smaller the number the more it will "poke". my 15" of the same wheel has 3.313" thats why they'll stick out more

 

I love that wheel-they dont make it with less backspacing do they? i want those babys to poke- i think that makes the truck look totally different.

no, thats the only 16" size mickey thompson has for our bolt pattern, you can't even get them in a 10" wide with a 16.

you could check out Pacer or Eagle Alloy. they make a wheel very similar to them but i believe the backspacing is the same as stock if not more. I could be wrong on their backspacing though.

yeah thats the same truck. It was awesome but he sold it. its not just the wheel that would be too wide it will also be the tire being too narrow. if you put that tire on a 10" wide wheel it will stretch the sidewall.


first ones are too wide for ur current tires so i'd pass on that and the 2nd ones look like this

well it has almost the same back spacing as my 15's did (they have a little less so a little more "poke") but i really don't know with the tire itself since i've never had aftermarket wheels with my 265 75's

 

yea plus mine are 1in shorter from what i understand.
what wheels did Dave have on his-he also had 265 75's and i liked his tires/wheel selection-looked really good.

also i found those pro comps in the 8" width but there polished, not black.

 

the flares are the same just the mudflap thing isn't integrated on the new ones. the 95-97 are the ones that are "slimmer".

dave had Ion alloy 171's

It will definitely look better. the procomps will be heavier and you'll easily feel the difference. you currently have aluminum, going to steel will just be more weight to lug around but will still look good. I had 33's and it wasn't bad imo. its a small truck anyway, i didn't care for much power or speed.

lol nah procomp ones you linked are steel. you have aluminum now so it shouldn't change anything. they might be a tad lighter i'm not sure tho

dont make the mistake i did. I had just bought new tires and wanted wheels so i got 16's then i needed tires and the prices and load E makes you have to get a tire you dont want in standard load. Sell your wheels and tires on CL and get soft 8's with some 31x10.5 KM2's
