Painting Factory Rims

How easy is it to get my style of chrome cover off? I havent really looked at it to much. The rim around the edge is starting to rust and I want to paint it. Figured I would pull the cover off and paint the whole rim black. Anyone running black rims like mine?

there should be a metal rod with a flat end in you bottle jack kit. put the flat end in the slot and pry until it pops off.

don't take the little rubber piece off the end of the rod because it scratches the rim.

^^^ I think he's taking about the chrome wheel covering and no the cap. At least I hope so......LOL

Apparently the covers are pressed on. I've seen the replacements on ebay and a few members have taken theirs off but for a different style rim.

The removable ones are suppose to be plastic, pretty easy to identify. If the edge is rusting, you may just have chrome plated rims without the cover. I know mine are the real deal because I have some slight surface pitting and rusting on mine. I guess some were covers and some were real chrome rims.

Oh, thats how those come off. LOL

Ya I was talking about the wheel cover. It looks like mine should come off but its been awhile since I really looked at it. I thought I have seen someone on here with the same style painted black. I think they had a greenish ranger with a topper on it and a role pan.

Most recent pic of truck. If I can get the covers off, I will paint the steal black and see if I like it during spring break. If not, put the covers back on.
