Painting my rims?

I have 16x8 American Racing Baja rims that are chrome. However the chrome is peeling on every rim, and two have some curb rash from a piece of concrete a truck dumped in front of me.
Im wondering if it would be worth it/ would be doable to peel all of the chrome and paint or powdercoat my rims? Also is this something I could do myself? Or should I have a shop take the tires off and do the whole rim.

i painted mine. mine didnt have chrome before though. the were just polished aluminum. took a wire wheel to that sucker and then some really fine sandpaper to smooth it off. looked pretty dang awesome if you ask me. i painted mine flat black with a clearcoat. oh and powdercoating rims is overrated. holds heat and well, you know what heat does to moving parts like bearing and ball joints!

How long ago did you buy the rims? Mose big name places like America's Tire Co will replace them if they see them flaking.

They are like over 3 years old. And they told me they would because of the curb rash, which they dont warranty. It sucks. They look nice when I shine them up but I still know all the flaws that are there, and that one in the pic is the worst, The chromme is all bubbled up and loose in places. Otherwise I would leave it chrome. I really want to gear up for some bigger tires since i go thte AAL's and torsion bars cranked so I would like some wider rims, but that wont be for a long while. These tires are new last july and only have 10000 miles on them. Just a thought.
