2.5 transmission question please

Just trying to clear this up really quick....
Is there a 2.5 4cyl in the duratec family and once the internals are made for a rear wheel drive application, will it bolt to the 55R5E automatic transmission?
Guess I'm just trying to figure out if it is a viable swap and has the same block as the 2.3. thank you so much in advance as this will save me a lot of time and can proceed forward!

Yes, there is a 2.5l DOHC Duratec, uses same bolt pattern as 2.3l Duratec, both are Mazda L engines

These all use the same bell housing bolt pattern
Duratec Mazda L engine
1.8 L (110 CID; 1798 cc)
2.0 L (122 CID; 1999 cc)
2.3 L (138 CID; 2261 cc)
2.5 L (152 CID; 2488 cc)
2001–present DOHC I4

2.3l Ecoboost also uses the same pattern, so you could "in theory" get a 10-speed(10R80) 2019-2022 Ranger transmission to use, lol, computer control may be an issue

Ranger 4cyls use the 5R44E, 2001.5 and up
5R55E was only on 4.0l Rangers
So 5R44E from a 2.3l Duratec would bolt to a 2.5l Duratec, if that's your question

Or a manual trans from a 2.3l Duratec would bolt to a 2.5l Duratec

My friend, wow! Thank you so much!
This helps so much.
I converted a fwd Taurus 3.0 to my Rangers current engine about 8 years ago. At 42k (engine only had 9k miles on it) since installing, it still runs fine. This makes my largest, most successful, mechanic jobs to date. So, I'm thinking I can undertake this swap. I'm guessing since this engine looks to only come in FWD vehicles, I'll need to do some similar work....at least it's just one smaller head.... 😆.
I'm guessing I'll need to get the matching harness and ecu or, since I'll be using a AT 5R44 (5 back surgeries with 12 bolts and 2, 9in rods currently) so I might have to get a 2.3 auto tranny ECU correct...to control the transmission itself?
I'm just looking to make my Ranger more current. She's an 03 which I've owned since 05. From HP, overall power, and mpg, the 2.5 is logical for me....and I want to turbo it too. Nothing crazy....maybe 225whp. I'm doing a Raptor-ish conversion with a one piece front clip and bed length side flares. So a baby stroked EcoBoost (over the Mustang 2.3) would be the right monetary choice for me.
Will the the 5R44 handle that future HP with a normal rebuild?
Or since I'm doing the turbo and 4cyl tranny, would I just be better off getting the 2.3 Duratec with ECU and harness? They are about $350 cheaper but miles are double.... possibly needing a rebuild putting the cost back up there.
I'm guessing I'm asking "what would you do?" Ron?
😂
Thank you in advance sir!

You can use the 2.3l Ranger harness with the 2.5l engine, extra .2l shouldn't matter to much to computer

Slightly larger injectors for turbo and most likely a tune

The 5R44E should handle up to 300hp, same for rear axle

So it looks like I need to find....
2.5 long block
Switch out parts from the 2.3 Ranger engine that will convert it to rear wheel drive. Which I have no idea what these are. I know on the 3.0 you got to switch out the head gaskets, and pretty much everything off of the Rangers 3.0 after stripping the Taurus 3.0 down to a short block.
Guessing this might be similar approach with the two five being converted to rear wheel drive or is it ready to go rear wheel drive right out of the box?
I'm going to do this I promise these questions and answers aren't in vain as I'm going to do a detailed ride up on it that way no one will have to ask these questions again.
With the 2.5 l being under $1,000 with around 30,000 miles on it, making 175hp/172tq, and getting 26mpg+ even in an automatic, it's about crazy to swap anything else in especially when you can boost this engine pretty easily.
I know it can't be much but I didn't even think about the weight difference between the 3.0 V6 and 2.5 i-4.
For the billionth time thanks again sir!

Never looked at the 2.5l but the cooling system on transverse mounted engines often has a different flow thru the block and heads, i.e. coolant enters at the front and exits at the rear, where in RWD engines coolant enters at the front and exits at the front

I know on the 2.3l there is a coolant hose at the rear of the head, because it was designed for transverse mounting, 2.5l may be able to be adapted that same way by using the 2.3l cooling system/hoses

wait im confused, so i want to swap my 07 xlt 2.3 dohc auto rwd to a 2.5L dohc auto{with paddle shifters if possible} rwd. What would I need for a clean and easy swap. Ideally I want to find something with a 2.5 and everything to just swap over including the edu.
