calculated my gas mileage and...

getting around 28.765 miles per gallon, that is stopping when it clicked one time and running it til it was hard to start due to lack of gas, lol everytime i turned sharp it would cut out...i was amazed i got that good, i drive 30 miles a day back and forth to school, 6 miles at which is throw town, i shifted where the book told me to shift and even dogged it in town alot of the days...its all stock but the exhuast and its a dumped flow, and my air filter is dirty, not shabby for a 97 ext cab with 105*** miles on the clock i thought, lol

HAHA...i do that alot, mostly don't relize it.

Yea, those numbers sound pretty close to my little brother's 2.5L. For me, too bad I have a leadfoot, those 4 bangers just don't do it for me.

I'm seriously thinking something is wrong with my truck. I see and hear about the 4bangers on here getting 20+ mpg. I drive 65 miles a day for work. I don't let the R's go much over 2500 RPM and I set my cruise no faster than 55. I'm averaging 18mpg!! Gotta be that stupid MIL I put on the rear 02 sensor. -Mike-

yep Ranger has had a complete tune up including new fuel filter, cat converter and now a B-12 Chemtool job. Runs like a champ, so yea, gotta be the MIL.

Seeing as I never replaced the 02 sensors on it yet, should I do both or just the rear? -Mike-

I got about 26mpg one time by taking it real easy.....none of that was interstate driving.......and we have a ton of hills. I usually get about 22 though with my lead foot.

Woah what the heck? 28? Is this all around town?

Geesh all I get is 17.. and then 21 on the highway. Im matching what the fueleconomy.gov says so how in the world are you guys getting these rates? Do you have the old 2.5 lima 4 banger or the newer 2.3 Duratec 4 banger?

You should not run the gas so low that its hard to start and cuts out around turns, you will burn up your fuel pump and it isn't good for the motor. Running it that low will also not give you any better mileage....

I have the same engine as you do, and get about the same mileage that you have said. usually about 18 city and 21-22 highway.

Well, for one thing, that is their new ratings. I easily get their new rating. It looks like about what they did was subtract 2-3mpg off of the original rating. (until 2008, then they actually test different)........still though, I could get near their original ratings.

i only ran it that low one time...and no this is highway, i only drive like 2 miles in town with 2 stops (small hick town) so i drive 18 miles highway and 2 town so most of mine is highway, getting ready to do a full tune up and change exhuast...see what happens then

Well I got somewhat high 20's this past weekend. I filled up on Friday around 2pm, and had to fill up today around 11:45am. From that time on Friday to today, I went 347.5 miles on one tank of gas. I could have gone about 15-20 more miles before I felt I really needed to fill up, but didn't want to chance not having a gas station around then. I put 13.919 gallons of fuel in, so that comes out to about 25 mpg, mainly all highway going between 55-65, and about 10 stoplights in between.
