Check Engine Light Not Installed?
Hello Ranger-Forums!
First off, thanks for all the advice - was able to get my 1987 2.3 running a lot nicer this last month. the details: today i did not pass smog because the inspector said my "check engine" light did not go on. I figured must be a burnt bulb, but I found there is no socket the gauge cluster corresponding to where the lense for "check engine" would go. Any ideas what's going on here? Did they really have a OBD in 1987? Thanks for any help! |
Yes there were versions of OBD systems in 87 however to my knowledge they were not required by law before 1996 when OBD2 was introduced so I don't know why they would do a CEL test on a truck that old. Another however, California's emission laws are insane so there may be laws specific to your state that don't apply to the rest of humanity.
