Which engines???

I was told that I have to buy a 2008 or newer engine to replace the one in my 2010 ranger. (2.3). Is this true or will a, let’s say 2002 ranger engine work?? Any help will be appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum

It depends on local emissions laws, Calif. requires same year or newer engine as replacement

As far as what will work, then 2004-2011 Ranger 2.3l or Mazda B2300 will be OK

2001-2003 2.3l will not work as they had IMRC(intake manifold runner control) which is part of the intake manifold, if you swap out the whole intake manifold then it would work
Also swap or get a new, 2004-2011 thermostat, 2001-2003 had heated thermostat which wouldn't work in 2004 and up
