Hard start up and rough idle
Hard start up and rough idle
Hello and greetings everyone,
I have a 1997 Ranger 2.3 , 2WD , manual transmition, and I recently replaced the spark plugs and wires. and soon after the engine began to stall and eventually would not turn over. There was just a single click. So I replaced the plugs and wires agian, making sure that each one was gapped and torqued correctly, but it did not help. So then I replaced the solenoid relay, as well as the entire starter motor and put in a new battery. Now the engine starts right up but it seems very rough sounding and idles rough as well. I should mention that I also had removed the clutch safety switch, to inspect it and then reinstalled it again because it seemed fine. I did have some trouble putting it back on and wasn't real confident about it being done correctly. However, it still does start up immediately but idles rough. I also repaired a vaccume line (heater, I believe it was) that had broken off and was hanging loose
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all in advance and have a wonderful day,

do some trouble shooting.
disconnect the IAC and if your motor doesn't want to stall out then you have big vacuum leaks after the MAF.
i suspect vacuum leaks. take pictures of your engine bay and all around your intake plenum sometimes visual aids help us come up with more specific troubleshooting tips.
