Lift/Tires Questions

I've talked about this in the past but I recently stumbled apon a customer that was actually willing to pay to get their house worked on so I have a little cash to play with.

I was thinking about getting my 04 lifted and getting rock crawlers and was wondering what opinions anyone would have as to how big of a lift and what size tires to use.

Also, I was wondering.. The 2.3L 4 banger is already pretty sluggish. It was already determined that I had the higher gear ratio in my axels. I was wondering if running bigger tires would make the truck more sluggish ?

A friend has an 05 F-150 and recently got 24 inch rims with the low profile tires and it rides pretty rough and lost alot of power.

Anything anyone can tell me would be appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: There is a guy in my neighborhood selling his 97 v8 dodge ram with 9 inch lifts and 35" mastercraft mud terrains for $2,900. Would I be better off just to buy that truck and save my money on the Ranger ?

Well if you go with bigger tires you are going to lose acceleration. It's just like changing your gear ratio.

And yes the 2.3 is a bit slow but I didn't buy it to go racing. If you want a toy I say buy the Ram.

i agree on buying the ram, but id say ask him what he has put that truck through, cuz if he has the lift and the bigger tires then he has probably taken it off-road and may have broken something, so u dont wanna buy something that is all broken and stuff

I'd suggest a 3" spindle lift and 31's......and add a 8.8" w/ 4.10's. That should be perfect for you ap. Or shoot......a 6/4 Doestesh(speeling is aweful) lift. I assume you have a 2wd xlt because of the 2.3L.
