Misfiring, flashing CEL
Misfiring, flashing CEL
Need some advice, having issues with my 2006 Ranger. Couple of weeks ago I got a code for a misfire on cylinder 2, which I of course put off on fixing. It blew out yesterday while driving down the highway. I've replaced the plug (fortunately threads remain somehow). After starting back up, my CEL starts flashing. I check the codes and get the following.
1. Multiple cylinder misfire
2. Cylinder 1 misfire
3. Cylinder 2 misfire
4. Misfire on first 1000 revs
I figured #3 was old (codes take a while to clear right?) so I go ahead and replace the cylinder 1 plug and wires for both. No change. Still have a fairly rough idle, truck shakes a bit, and CEL is still flashing several moments after starting it up.
I do have the gap on the plugs right, 1.25mm. I figure it has to be something damaged from when the plug blew out. It was running fine before (aside from the cylinder 2 misfire which wasn't really noticeable while idle). .

Check firing order on coil pack
I KNOW it is right when I do it, and it is wrong, lol.
Follow each wire from spark plug boot back to coil pack
Then do it again
I know, "there are only 4",................................. so it won't take that long then, lol
And you need to do a compression test first, just to take that off the table, before wasting time, or money, on non-fixes if compression is the problem
Compression is a black and white test, there are no "maybes"

Thanks for the ideas. I double checked the order, was fine, but decided to just put one of the plugs into a spare wire and plug it into each post and sure enough, when I tested #2 the plug didn't fire.
Hopefully replacing the coil will solve this.
