I have a 1993 ford ranger with the 2.3l in it. I noticed that a plug is not plugged in in my truck. It will start with a jump but won't hold a charge. I notice something wasn't plugged in and its connected to the alternator on one side of the y shaped wire while the the other side is not plugged in. I cant figure out where it goes. I also got a new battery and alternator recently. Please help.
Edit: it's not the alternator wires. It's the other side of the y shaped cable.

Reason: Clarification
There should be a 3 wire plug on the back of the alternator, thats the voltage regulator plug in, just FYI
Yellow wire, Light green wire, AND a white wire
I assume you mean the white wire's other end is not plugged in to anything, and yes alternator would not work if thats the case
There is a single electrical "tab/spade" right next to the 3 wire plug in
The white wire plugs in/on to that spade
