06 Ranger quick CPS Question
06 Ranger quick CPS Question
Long story short, CPS was squeaking, replaced with a Dorman (didn't read all the bad reviews till after) Used a sharpie and took pictures, was sure I had it installed exactly as the old one, about 100km later CEL came on and was giving me a couple CPS related codes.
I removed the CPS, set engine to TDC and reinstalled CPS with alignment tool, and now I am still throwing CEL codes. I have since went and bought a motocraft cps and going to install it today.
Do I set the engine to TDC or 10degrees past TDC, I have seen some conflicting information on this. Haynes says TDC, but a well wrote guide I read (on most likely this site) say 10degrees after, which is correct?
Also how critical is having the arrow on the aligment tool pointing exactly 38 degrees of the centerline of the engine?
Thanks in advance!

i have replaced mine a few times on my 3.0 and the 3.0 says to put it at TDC. you will notice it may not even start if you put it 10 deg off. as for the 38 degrees of centerline it didn't make much difference on my truck where i put it as long as the alignment tool and timing was right.
The factory alignment tool sets the correct CMP sensor angle with #1 cylinder at TDC, end of compression stroke. I would assume that the Dorman tool works the same way but who knows?
