1986 2wd AUTOMATIC transmission oil change?
1986 2wd AUTOMATIC transmission oil change?
Hey guys,
so for someone not mechanically inclined I've managed to do ALL the work on the entire truck yet I can honestly admit I have never changed tranny oil before in just about anything. Truck is running good and want to do some preventative maintenance. I have found some youtube videos for my generation but all manual trannys. I do not own a manual, truck never came with one. I want to do a FULL transmission fluid change with filter.. I've been looking up tranny filters on orileys and autozone (my shops) and the filters looks like a flat piece of fender metal or something? Is this correct? I heard my truck takes 7 quarts the other guy at the other shop said 9-10 quarts.
How difficult are these to change? The mechanic that seemed smarter said he though on this year i remove what looks like a bottom plate with gasket and it ALL drops out.. then pop out a filter replace gasket and refill.. but some transmissions you have to fill through some tiny opening with a small hose, so trying to figure this all out. I prefer doing things right the first time, plus I'll be putting expensive amsoil in her.
Appreciate the help making sure I don't waste money ruining things.!
