I just got a 1992 Ranger with the 3.0 and it idles kinda rough and has a ticking to it. It has brand new lifters but I still cannot figure out what is up with it.

 

I have a 94 3.0 rough idle could be timing issue assuming yours has distributor like mine does it should be a 10mm at the the back passenger side of distributor just slightly loosen it and turn distributor my truck has same ticking noise I've heard theirs flaps in the intake that will cause this noise but I've been driving truck around and haven't had problems also in my 02 4.0 I know the TPS"throttle position sensor" caused a rough idle and stalling problems

 

Only turn distributor slightly also advise marking distributor with pen or paint so I'd problem persists you can get distributor set back into the sane place it was before

 

thanks for the advice. Ill try it out when I get it back from the paint shop and I'll let you know if it fixed it. Also I found out that the ticking was just wore out rocker arms and i have them ordered now.
