Hello everyone, Im new to this forum so first hello and thanks for any help in advance. I purchased a 1997 3.0 4x4 stick Ranger today because the price was right. I drove it home (30 Min) and stopped at the Advance to check the CEL to see what codes came up. I got a laundry list : P0174, P0171, P0306, P0303 and P1400. I got 2 new 02 sensors, a new Evap purge valve and a new EGR valve. Now I have not installed anything yet. I wanted to check for vacuum leaks first. I found the hose connected to the intake manifold to the evap purge and charcoal canister had a massive leak. I noticed also the CEL blinking. I would imagine this is from the 2 mis fire codes ? I zip tied them up and got rid of the massive leak. Do you think all of this could have been caused by that huge vac leak ? I sprayred starting fluid all around the manifold and vac lines and no change in idle. Its runs very ruff at idle and doesnt idle down sometimes it actually revs up between shifts, I would imagine this is associated to the massive vac leak. I need to get this fixed by saturday to take it through emissions ................ Any Ideas ???????????

 

How is it running? Does it have 2 completely dead cylinders? does it misfire badly under load? or does it misfire only slightly enough to trip the CEL?

Fix all the vacuum leaks and evap emissions leaks that you can or have it fixed somewhere first just in case that will fix all your issues. fix what you know is wrong you know. My guess is it will need spark plugs and wires (may need them anyway for maintnence) possibly may have a bad coil pack?
