1998 3.0 motor

i just picked up a 98 ranger with a 3.0 that has a blown head gasket. my question is what year motor can i put in it (98-99-00-01)? also what is a good price on a used motor 70xxx miles?

why not just replace the head gasket.....it would be way easyer than doing a motor swap....and only cost like $100

the motor is locked up and i dont know what kind of abuse the motor had on it before me. i plan on taking the head off and seeing what the real problem is but is i can find a decent motor at a decent price i will just swap it out.

oh..that makes more sence....i thought u just wanted to throw a new motor at it and not seeing what the problem really is and if its fixable.

i have a 99 with a 3.0. i found a 02 with a 4.0 with 40,000 on the motor and the trans that im putting in my truck for 800.

can you put in a ford windstar or aerostar motor in a ranger if you swap all the external parts? will the trans bolt up or are they different blocks?

any one have any info on this i found a 91 ranger with a fresh motor that i can pick up cheap will the trans bolt up to the motor? i am going to swap out the intake and exhaust will there be any problems? has any done this before?
